12/22/2023 0 Comments Storywriting reddit![]() It always starts with a random idea, or a vision of something. I try to write right away, and I usually don't plan much at all. I mean it's all much more complicated than it sounds, cause motivations and stuff, but, yeah. Depends on what feels like a better story at the time.Įither way, I save a brief note on whatever I didn't choose for later inspiration. I either go back and write up to Jack pulling the trigger (removing all the aftermath I wrote) or I keep moving forward. Usually, by a few paragraphs in to the aftermath I know how they got to that point. I just follow the character's reaction to those events. ![]() Opening line:ĭepending on my mood at the time, it will either be Jack killing himself, or killing her. Instead of trying to figure out how he got there, right off, I usually use that as a beginning. Behind him on the mantelpiece is a photo of him with the woman at the altar. I have a vision of a man, standing over a woman with a gun in his hand. I get a flash - a vignette- a picture in my head. I don't have it outlined, just ideas I want to follow, but I feel a lack of motivation to follow them since I already essentially have simply by coming up with them already.ĭo you plan everything out? Or is it more of a spur of the moment kind of thing, based on a spontaneous thought? Or do you get an idea, chew on it for a while, and then decide to write it down in the form of a story? I think of all these wonderful different alleyways I can bring the story, and I scribble them down in my little pocket notebook-but once I get to my keyboard, I have nothing to write. It's the same sort of thing with musing over an idea for an extended period of time. ![]() It just feels like I'm checking off a grocery list and that gets me disinterested in the story I want to write. I feel trapped inside a designed story, and I don't find myself getting as surprised by the way things go. I find myself as more of a spur of the moment kind of writer, just inspired and annoyed by all the things around me and feeling a desire to convey these things as soon as I can. I'm interested in what people's personal preferences are and why they're that way.
